Recipes

These recipes are vegetarian, and most of them are built on Ayurvedic principles I have been teaching in Cape Town since 2000. Where it is useful, each recipe carries a short note on the tastes it contains and the dosha it settles. The cooking comes first. The Ayurveda is there if you want it.

Cape Town autumn table

Cape Town’s good month is April, the light long and the wind finally easing. This is when I start cooking the Carrot and Potato Patties again, ghee warming on the pan, the sweet root vegetables doing the work the salads did all summer. I bring the Dhana Jeera Mix back to the front of the spice shelf around now. It suits the turn in the weather, and it suits a body that is ready to be grounded again after three months of light eating.
